A
key is presented which enables the identification of most filamentous
micro-organisms occurring in activated sludge plants fed with mainly domestic
wastewater. The key is based upon features that can be observed by
conventional phase contrast and bright field microscopy. On applying this
key, you have to choose between two or three images at each step. Select
the image which resembles best the features of the filament observed in
your microscope. Eleven characteristics of filamentous species are used in
the key. Click here for a full list of these characteristics and their
description. You are referred to the "Process Control" multimedia package (CD-ROM + Manual) for more information about subjects, such as controlling filamentous growth, operational problems caused by foam and scum, floc morphology, protozoa, etc. |
